I first met Bob in the early stages for my career when he was a Sgt. Right from the beginning Bob impressed me with his calm patient demeanor. As he rose through the ranks I always had a sense that he never forgot his roots as a street cop. Whether a S/Sgt, Inspector, or Staff Inspector his rank didn't matter, he always found time to chat with the regular patrol officers.
I always held him in high esteem for this.

I was a young Officer working out of the Kenilworth Station in 1987 when I first met Inspector Pope. He was an awesome boss to work for who treated his people with respect and inspired you to want to work for him. I remember he always showed up at closing time at the Jockey Club when he was the Duty Officer to help out with the many weekend arrests and bar fights. He was an imposing figure but also a true gentleman. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

He was firm, but fair, and had the respect of everyone who knew him. He cared about the officers under his command,... and it showed. To my brother in arms Terry, Joanne, and the entire Pope family, my sincere sympathies.

I was happy to have been able to share many fine moments with him over the years, and was very touched when he took the time to attend my father's funeral many years ago. I for one, will remember Bob for many years to come, and I hope his family will find solace knowing how much Bob was liked and respected by everyone who knew him.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He was a true gentleman and a great police officer.
I had the pleasure of meeting Bob on the second day on the job, when he took Bob Fullerton and I the Ancaster range to qualify on our revolvers.
He had patience and understand that made me feel at ease in handling a gun for the first time.
I later had the pleasure to work for Bob when he was the inspector at Central.
On occasion we would compare notes about fishing on Lake Erie.
He will truly be missed.
My sincere condolences to the entire Pope family.

My condolences to Doreen and family. I spoke to Bob many times in the past 18 yrs since moving to Dover; he never changed...always a true gentleman....always listening and making conversations a two-way affair. I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Bob several times throughout my career and I truly believe he was 'one of a kind'! He spoke often of his cottage in the Bruce Peninsula and once while working with him he took me to his home in Hamilton to show me his amazing woodworking projects. The last couple times I saw him and Doreen at Parkview Meadows were bittersweet.
To quote an old saying; "he was a man among men". R.I.P.

I first remember Bob as the Service Armourer. He was a good and caring teacher to all of us rookies who never held a revolver in our hands before, other than at OPC. I recall how he handled all of us with firm safety directions but also with a gentle smile which made us feel comfortable as we gained our confidence. Later in all of our careers as Bob moved up the ranks he never changed. He treated everyone with respect even while correcting negative behaviour. We all learned from this.
