Obituary of Walter Charles Daniel Long
LONG Walter Charles Daniel of Port Dover, passed away at Norfolk General Hospital on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in his 92 year. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Doug and Brenda Long of Port Dover, Brad and Sheryl Long of Stouffville and Connie MacArthur of Port Dover. Loving grandfather of Eric and Jen, Richard and Carrie-Jo, Laird and Lisette, Averil and Greg, Angela, Hannah, Grace, Stella and Daniel and great-grandfather of Noah, Macy, Charlie, Blake, Lily Anne and Mason. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Merritt and Arlene of Mississauga, Joyce Vokes of Simcoe, and Teresa Long of Brantford. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (2012), brother Maurice Long and brother-in-law Victor Vokes. Walt was a true community builder and was a integral part of Port Dover past and present. He will be fondly remembered by many and his presence will be missed. Walt was a recipient of the Queens Jubilee medal, past president and life member of the Port Dover Lions Club and awarded the Melvin Jones award, past president, director and member of Flowers Canada where he also was given the Cecil Delworth award, Chairman of 3 different school boards, held seats on the City of Nanticoke Council and former Port Dover PUC, past chair of the Port Dover Harbour Marina board and founding member of the Port Dover Foundation. Walt was also Past President of the Port Dover Board of trade, deeply involved with the NGH Foundation, voted Citizen of the year in Port Dover and continued giving his time and efforts to the betterment of the community until his passing. Very few men have given so much of themselves to their community the way that Walt has and we are forever grateful. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Friday, February 16, 2018 at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, 102 First Ave., Port Dover from 2pm to 4 pm and 7pm to 9 pm a Lions Service will be held at 4:30 pm. A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11 am at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Market and St. George St., Port Dover. The Reverend Tony Bouwmeester officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Port Dover Community Centre, everyone is welcome. For those wishing donations to NGH Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated.
