Dear Doug, Brad, Connie and their families: My most sincere condolences with Walter’s passing, he will be sorely missed. He has spend much of his personal time doing what he could for Port Dover and surrounding area, as well as the Ontario Floral Industry in past years. Whatever Walter did was with the utmost effort to bring it to a conclusion. Port Dover thanks you for all you did for us.
Now he is with Barbara , looking down to guide us here on this earth. May God bless them, and the family left behind. Peter Slaman.

The loss of any parent / grandparent is a difficult one, but when the person in question is "a giant of a man" in terms of both family and community leadership, the loss is truly titanic. I imagine this is how things will be for all of you, now, without Walt, and for that I offer heartfelt condolences. To many of us in Port Dover - certainly to myself and Eric and Rich's other half-dozen or so lifelong local friends - Walt was essentially an extra grandpa, and always a friendly and chatty and inquisitive one at that. I have so many fond memories of time spent at his home with my pals, whether poolside or inside, and I shall treasure them. Over the past couple of decades, whether on the street or at the grocery store or Silver Lake Market, I'd see Walt coming and ready my grip for that famous handshake-and-smile - often coupled with his other hand patting or squeezing my shoulder - and prepare for questions like "Well, what are those boys of yours up to?" and "How's your mom doing?" and "When are you coming back up to the pool?" and "Are you keeping those students in line? It's good for them, you know..." Oh, Papa Long, you meant so much to so many, and your absence leaves such a void...
As you all come to terms with Walt's loss, may you find strength in each other and much love and laughter as you share your memories of him. Hold your heads up high and find solace in the fact that all of you sprang from him and that he loved all of you - and Barb, of course - more than anything else in life. You were his pride and joys and you took very good care of him, too, so be proud of that. You enriched his life so very much and he knew how loved he was, how integral he was to your lives, right up until the end came. Take care, all of you, in the weeks and months ahead, and mind your wounded hearts. ~Jason

Dear Wayne, Brad and Connie and Families,
My Sincerest Sympathies for your great loss of your Father. He and I developed a lovely friendship over the past 18 years and I received emails and telephone calls where we would chat about the flower world and life in general. It was only a week or so we had a chat downtown. I will miss his lovely smile and kindness. Blessings and Peace to you all. Love, Ann
