Obituary of Peter Slaman

SLAMAN, Peter 
It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Peter Slaman in his 88th year. Predeceased by his loving wife Veronica "Ronnie". Peter will be sadly missed by his daughters Margaret (Andy) Law and Tania (James) Hughes. Cherished papa and grandpa to Alex and Victoria Hughes and Kirsty Law. Peter leaves behind his siblings John (Celia) Slaman, Marg Hughes, Nellie (Ed) Kruis, Ted Slaman, Ann Duwyn, Joe (Dianne) Slaman and sister-in-law Toni Slaman. Predeceased by siblings Len Slaman, Corrie (Case) Tromp, Bill Slaman and brother-in-law Len Hughes. Peter will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Olivia Hays. She has been a constant comfort and friend for him since Ronnie passed. In 1953 Peter emigrated to Canada from the Netherlands with his family. He became an amazing florist and keen businessman. Peter devoted many hours volunteering on different boards and committees; he felt it was his way of giving back to Canada, a country which offered him a wonderful life. He was instrumental in the development of Silver Lake Park, the fundraising and building of the Dover Sports Park and many more community projects in Port Dover. He was a proud member of the Port Dover Lions Club since 1997 and loved to volunteer his time to the July 1st Canada Day Parade, Friday the 13th and any other chance he could. He loved sailing and skiing and after retirement he added hiking, cycling and travelling to his activities. Peter was a loving, kind, generous, fair, patient and intelligent man. He was an example of a man that one should want to strive to be. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Peter with the family at visitation on Thursday January 26, 2023 from 7-9 pm at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME. 102 First Ave Port Dover (519)583-1530.
