We own the historical home that Elva Broker and her family lived in for many years. One of the great joys we experienced was reuniting Elva and her family with their old home as we hosted a small visit just a few years ago. We marveled at how sharply Elva remembered details about the house and so generously shared memories of raising children in the home we now raise our own in. What struck us though, was how talk shifted to our own family. Elva was genuinely interested in us, our kids, and was so warm and engaging. We felt like we had known each other for years! We continued to stay in touch. And we are sad on one hand at Elva's passing, but also blessed and honoured to have struck a friendship with Elva in her 99th year (and her wonderful family). She was an inspiring, amazing gem in our community who will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Elva Broker.

I met Elva when I started going to the Church. She was always a lovely kind and considerate lady. I did some sewing for her and her daughter years ago but only got to know her better through Church and UCW. She will be missed by all who knew her. My condolences to the family and I know you will all miss her cheerfulness.

I first met Elva 60 years ago as a child living on Prospect Street. Even back then I remember thinking she was such a classy lady. And that remained true throughout her life. I marvel at how no matter what she always looked so well dressed ...even when she was supposedly slumming it. My association continued as interactions with her children happened. Then as a member of Grace Church I had the honour and privilege to work several of the events with her. She was always so organized and she was definitely a strong leader. She made every event fun. She had more energy than people half her age. Just like the Energizer Bunny! I looked forward to seeing and greeting her in spot in the rear pew on Sundays. What a wonderful human being and such an amazing role model! I am sad to know she has gone from us but I know she is in a good place. The world will be less without her. Rest well Elva! You have earned it! Condolences to all of the family. She was One of a Kind and will be missed!
