Joanne was a family friend who will be missed by all the Smiths. By Anna who would often have a cup of tea and a chat, by Peter who worked with her on the NDP campaigns as well as charlotte and Patricia who attended school with her children. Once on a visit a friend of Patricia's said I`ve never seen you so relaxed. I said it was because I was home. I will miss her bear hugs!

Joanne was such a wonderful neighbour, always frank and truthful and oh so giving. Nigel loved her banana bread and we were the grateful recipients of pieces of pie and cake. All of my kids loved her and she will especially missed by my daughter-in-law Jayme. I will miss seeing her sitting at the back of her house, with her feet up on a table, having tea and reading the newspaper. I will miss talking to her as she hung laundry on the line. Over the years our dog Ollie has escaped out the door many times and would run around the yards while we called him and tried to tempt him to come to us. As soon as Joanne came outside, he would run right to her and she would grab his collar and hold him until we could get there. Grace street will not be the same without you Joanne. Rest in peace.

When we think of your mother the notion of optimism and gratitude come to mind. Every time we would ask Johanna "How are you?" she would reply consistently with a beautiful, warm smile and with her trademark response,"I'm always good!"
