Obituary of BARBARA RYERSE

RYERSE, BARBARA RUTH RYERSE, Barbara Ruth of Port Dover, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Norview Lodge; born on September 1, 1918 in Mansonville, Quebec. Wife of the late H. Vernon Ryerse to whom she was married for 57 years; predeceased by her son, Michael; her parents, Rev. Archie and Mrs. Lena Sisco; siblings, George Sisco (Dora), Ted Sisco, Della Mae Gray (Henry), and Dorothy Lunn (Ross). She is survived by her children: Jan Ryerse (Sheila) of St. Louis, Missouri, Jane Uloth (Brian) of Burlington and daughter-in-law Andree Delisle of Toronto; grandchildren: Tashya Riggs (Lane) of San Antonio, Texas, Amy Moser (Ron) of Glendale, Missouri, Bryson Uloth (Danielle) of Hong Kong, China, and Krista Uloth (John MacMillan) of Toronto; as well as nine great grandchildren and sister-in-law Eleanore Sisco. Barbara was a long-time member of Grace United Church in Port Dover where she also was a member of Unit Two. While raising her family, she began a lengthy educational quest by taking extension classes, often with husband Vern, through both McMaster University and University of Western Ontario (UWO). She received her B.A. (1972) and M.A. (1977) in English from UWO and, after many years of intense study, including research at Yale and Oxford Universities, she wrote her thesis and received a PhD (1989) from UWO. Barbara continued to write occasional papers for English journals until about 5 years before her death. Her memory will be cherished by her family, many close friends, bridge club members, book club members, Unit members, and neighbours; her intellect will be appreciated into the future by those who read and study her work. Barbara's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Norview Lodge for their care and compassion. Friends are invited to meet with the family to share their memories of Barbara at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530) on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. A Memorial Service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Grace United Church (Chapman & St. George Sts.), Port Dover on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 1 pm. The Reverend Murray Barnet officiating, followed by interment at Port Dover Cemetery.
