Obituary of Mary Carol Swiston

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Mary Carol Swiston at Norfolk General Hospital on June 5, 2026.

Mary was the cherished and longtime partner of Ron Lavoie, whose love and companionship brought her great happiness. She will be deeply missed by her loving children, John Bramer (Andrea Fraser) and Shannon Bramer (David Derry). A devoted and proud Nana, Mary treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, Aviah, Cainin, Azara, Sadie, Lydia, and Gabriel, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Mary is lovingly remembered by her brother Steve Bacic (Wendy Burley), and the Lavoie family: Georgette, Rob and her dear niece, Joanna and family. Mary will also be missed by many extended family members and friends, among them, Amy Gibson and Frank Bernt. She was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Gizela Bacic, and by her brother, Joseph Bacic.

A longtime and devoted member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Mary was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed. Her generous spirit and commitment to her faith community touched the lives of many. She also dedicated her time as a volunteer at the Lighthouse Theatre and enjoyed gathering at the Legion for a friendly game of euchre every Wednesday. Mary loved Port Dover and embraced Canada Day and Friday the 13th with contagious exuberance and joy. Mary will always be remembered for her keen sense of style, love of music and the warm home she created for so many; together she and Ron had an open-door policy that welcomed friends and family, both old and new, into her home whenever they needed a delicious dinner or a place to land in hard times. Above all, she cherished her family and “making mischief” with her grandchildren. We will all miss her so much.

The family invites you to join them On Wednesday June 10, 2026 for visitation at Thompson Waters Funeral Home 102 First Ave., Port Dover between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:00pm. As per Mary’s wishes, cremation will then take place and a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 27, 2026 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church 302 St. George St. Port Dover at1:00pm.
