Obituary of Elsie May Berry

BERRY, Elsie May (nee Ivison) passed away at Dover Cliffs LTC on Sunday, June 1, 2025 in her 93rd year. Dearly loved mother of David, Brian and Carl Ryerse. Elsie was a kind and loving person. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews and friends in Port Dover and Brantford. Predeceased by her parents Doug and Clara Ivison and her brother Lawrence. Elsie was in nursing most of her life and specialized in geriatric care of disabled and the elderly. She started her nurses training at the Port Dover Nursing Home; while being employed there for 8 years, she also became their activity director and had many entertaining hours for the residents there. Elsie had the route of the Port Dover July 1 parade changed so the residents could be outside to see the parade. She was with St. Johns Ambulance and was always available for cuts and bruises. Elsie worked at the Simcoe Hospital Nursing Home and was honoured for police week throughout Ontario. She moved to Brantford, worked in hospitals, nursing homes and for private duty nursing, specializing in terminal illness and disabled and elderly patients. She also worked for the Red Cross and Homecare and was a volunteer knitter for the VON. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing Barbershop with the Brant Choraleens. They put on shows at the Sanderson Centre. The family would like to thank everyone at Dover Cliff LTC for the compassion and care they gave our mom while in their care. Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, Port Dover 519-583-1530. A graveside service will be held at Port Dover Cemetery on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 3 pm.
