Obituary of Matilda Mallon

MALLON, Matilda "Tillie" "Mnis No Kwe" (nee Wemigwans) -- Matilda passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 9, 2015. She was born in 1933 at her home in South Bay, Wikwemikong. Tillie was the 13th child to Daniel and Julia Wemigwans. She was a devoted and loving wife to Paul (predeceased 2006) and loving mother to her 6 children; Kim, Laurie (Murray), Kelly (Scott), Stephen (Brenda), Patti (Jason) and Julie (Steve). She graduated as a registered nurse in 1956. Her nursing career spanned 35 years and allowed her to travel and work in numerous places across Canada. Her attentive, caring nature flourished during her career and this same care and love was offered unconditionally to her surviving 17 grandchildren; Caitlin, Adam, Hailey, Brandon, Jannen, Justin, Connor, Joshua, Nolan, Emily, Shannon, Ryan, Karlina, Abbey, Hillary, Kieran and Quinlan. When she travelled back to her homeland on Manitoulin she loved to visit and speak Anishnaabemowin with her countless nieces and nephews. Tillie was an active member of her local Catholic Women's League. She will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to share their memories of Tillie on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 7 pm to 9 pm (evening only) at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME,102 First Ave., Port Dover, (519)-583-1530. C.W.L. Service will be held at the funeral home at 6:45 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11 am at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Lynn Park Rd. Port Dover. Father David Butler celebrant. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. Donations can be made in kind to the Norfolk General Hospital Palliative Program or the Canadian Cancer Society.
